What is Starlink?
Starlink is a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network developed by SpaceX, aiming to provide broadband internet service to remote and underserved areas lacking stable internet infrastructure. This network uses thousands of small satellites operating in low orbit (about 550 km above the ground), helping to reduce latency and improve data transmission speed.
Why is Starlink a Solution for Rural and Remote Connectivity?
1. Wide Coverage and Easy Access
Unlike traditional internet services, Starlink does not rely on fiber optic or 4G/5G infrastructure. Users only need to install a terminal device (antenna) and connect to the satellite to access the internet anywhere, from high mountains to remote islands.
2. High Speed and Low Latency
Starlink offers download speeds of up to 220 Mbps and upload speeds of 25 Mbps, with latency ranging from 20–40ms. This allows users to participate in online learning, work remotely, or enjoy entertainment without interruptions.
3. Support for Remote Education and Healthcare
With a stable internet connection, students in rural areas can attend online classes, access study materials, and interact with friends and teachers. At the same time, remote healthcare services become feasible, allowing people to access healthcare services without traveling far.
Starlink in Vietnam
Vietnam has granted permission for SpaceX to trial the Starlink service in certain areas to enhance internet connectivity in underserved regions. This project not only helps improve the quality of life for residents but also promotes digital transformation locally.
